Shadow Stories
I played with shadow art trying to present the many doubts I have for my personality. The two houses on the sides, present the book of my life where there are many chances, shown via staircases and windows, but no actual route to get where I belong, shown by the absence of a door. The artwork is to be watched in a sequence, from one house to the other in a circular motion. I show how I am trying to reach out and get into the world of the LGBT community, but failing. The houses are on burnt paper, inspired by artist Elroy Ashmore’s ‘Ghost’ series. I cast shadows on the houses, with a miniature 3D print of myself, as I feel it best shows my immobility and feeling of being a tiny outcast. My shadow moves along the sheet to the next house, to portray my tiredness as I show myself unmoving and left out, in the middle, unable to be on either side. I use fumage on the floor to have a dusky dramatic effect, and paint shadows of myself in acrylics, to show my permanent states of confusion.
