I explored the theme of chiaroscuro and realisI made this piece in black and white pan pastel, using highlights of black and white charcoal pencils. I set the drawing through the process of blocking in and then continued sculpting in to build the shape of the face.
This piece makes me observant and makes me ponder about the natural form.
Both pan pastel and blocking in have now become one of my favorite materials to work in/with.
