Bra(anded)

Bra(anded)

Almost every female breast wears a bra and the word is still considered a taboo in some places. Bras are neither talked about nor shown publicly, as it’s considered shameful/immoral. This second artwork of my series also expresses the lesbian and transgender group; during my exploration of the concept, I interacted with transgender and lesbian groups and came across expressions and postures that needed to be captured. As I am connected to both issues equally, I combined the taboo of the bra with the heart-felt difficulties of the trans and lesbians to make a ‘brand’ that defies the taboos set by the society. I dipped the bras in a glue solution, after several tries to harden the cloth, to stiffen them enough to draw on. I made observational sketches via self-clicked images, with monotonous use of black pen, to unify their struggle. The roughness that came about in the sketches by the rigid texture of the cloth helped stage my opinion, of the hurdle filled life of this society, better.
