Blank Pages, Longing Words

Blank Pages, Longing Words

The LGBT community defines a part of me which I had recently realized. Through a self-portrait, I intend to reflect this hidden part of myself. I portray this hidden side partially, highlighting the delicacy of this subject throughout the world. I was inspired by the composition of artist Vijender Sharma’s “self-portrait". The artist has painted himself with a list of words that reflects him, in contrast to his motive I included myself with a list that is blank; the blank list is a façade that I put forward to others. The words that really define me are filled in the backdrop with a self written poem. My empty page is blended with soft pastel due to its, smudgy, fade-able nature, communicating the thin line between my false and true image. I have used fumage technique to make the background dark and cloudy. With the messy nature of the poem I wished to reflect a layer of confusion in my choices. I feel the total appeal of partial grief is achieved by the monotonous use of dark colours.
